The Buckeye Furnace Mining Company Lands Public Hunting Area is in Jackson County approximately 2 miles southeast of Wellston. The 1,034 public area is accessible on the north by State Route 124. The rest of the area is surrounded by private land. Please respect the rights of adjacent landowners and get permission to use their property. The penalty for hunting without permission can be a fine of up to $500 and 60 days in jail for the first offense. The previously mined areas on the area are old spoil and gob that are revegetated with hardwood trees of various sizes. The terrain of these areas is very rugged and caution must be used.
