About This Lease
La Cygne Lake is a 2,600-acre cooling reservoir for a coal-fired generating plant owned by Kansas City Power and Light, with 2,000 acres of the watershed comprising the wildlife area. The area is mostly wooded uplands, with some grass meadows and crop fields. Fishing on the lake can be excellent for black bass, white bass, crappie, and catfish. The wildlife area has excellent opportunities for deer, wild turkey, and squirrel hunting. Quail and rabbit hunting can be good at times. Waterfowl hunting can be good on the lake, and excellent on the warm-water discharge when severe weather congregates birds. All hunters, regardless of species pursued, are required to check-in before hunting and check-out after the hunt (regardless of success). Go to: iSportsman for registration and check-in. Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism maintains boat ramps in the warm-water discharge area of the lake and at the north end of the lake for accessing the main body of the lake. A marina and boat ramp are available at Linn County Park on the west side of the lake.
