About This Lease
The Castle Valley Outdoors Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) lies in a valley between the Nelson Mountains, Young Peak and the Molen Reef. The main area of the CWMU only increases from about 6100 feet to 6200 feet north to south. There is a southwest finger of the Castle Valley Outdoors CWMU that has more relilef as it follows up Muddy Creek. This finger goes into a more mountainous area ranging from 6200 feet to around 6700 feet. The most common elevation is 6200 feet but ranges from 6000 feet to 6900 feet with an elevation difference of 900 feet. Seventy percent (70%) of the CWMU elevation ranges between 6200 feet and 6600 feet an elevation difference of 400 feet.The majority of the Castle Valley Outdoors Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) is covered by Inter-Mountain Basins Mat Saltbrush Shrubland (40) and Agriculture (114), with minor contributions from Inter-Mountain Basins Big Sagebrush Shrubland (48), Inter-Mountain Basins Mixed Salt Desert Scrub (58), and Inter-Mountain Basins Greasewood Flat (82).One of the Castle Valley Outdoors Cooperative Wildlife Mangement Unit (CWMU) nearest weather stations, FERRON (422798), is about 8.3 km north from the north edge of the CWMU. FERRON has one hundred ten (110) years of records, 1897 - 2007. During the FALL (September, October and November) the average precipitation is 2.45 inches, but it can be as high as 5.00 inches or as low as 0.25 inch. During the 91-day FALL period, 12 days will experience greater than or equal to 0.01 inch of precipitation, 7 days of greater than or equal to 0.10 inch, or 1 days of the greater than or equal to 0.50 inch of precipitation. Snowfall during the FALL averages 2.8 inches but can be as high as 13.5 inches. FALL temperature at FERRON averages 49.9 degrees F. but can be as high as 97.0 degrees F. or as low as -4.0 degrees F. During the FALL, 38 days will be below freezing (32 degrees F.) and 1 day above 90 degrees F.
