The Indian Creek Cooperative Wildlife Management (CWMU) is located northeast of Park Valley, Utah on the Raft River Mountains.
The highest elevations occur in the northwest part of the Unit, around 9200 feet. Indian Creek
is the dominant feature of the Unit. The North Fork of Indian Creek starts at 7400 feet and joins
the South Fork at 6000 feet elevation. A smaller fork, Cucchi Fork starts at about 6600 feet
and joins the main stem of Indian Creek at about 5800 feet. Indian Creek finally exits the Unit
in the southeast at 5300 feet. The most common elevation is 5700 feet but ranges from 5300 feet to 9400 feet with an elevation difference of 2200 feet. Fifty-four percent (54%) of the CWMU elevation ranges between 6300 feet and 8500 feet an elevation difference of 2200 feet.
The Indian Creek Coopreative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) is dominated by two (2) landcover
types. In the north the dominant land cover type is Inter-Mountain Basins Montane
Sagebrush Steppe (62). In the south the dominant land cover is Great Basin Pinyon-Juniper
Woodland
(37). Throughout the Steppe and along the edge of the Pinyon-Juniper are extensive areas of
Inter-Mountain Basins Cliff and Canyon (8). In a strip through the middle of the Pinyon-Juniper
Woodland is Inter-Mountain Basins Big Sagebrush Shrubland (48), and at the extreme south
of the Unit is a patch of Great Basin Xeric Mixed Sagebrush Shrubland (49).
One of the Indian Creek Cooperative Wildlife Mangement Unit (CWMU) nearest weather stations, PARK VALLEY (427408), is about 9.0 km southwest from the southwest edge of the CWMU. PARK VALLEY has seventy-nine (79) years of records, 1911 - 1990. During the FALL (September, October and November) the average precipitation is 2.45 inches, but it can be as high as 6.38 inches or as low as 0.62 inch. During the 91-day FALL period, 13 days will experience greater than or equal to 0.01 inch of precipitation, 7 days of greater than or equal to 0.10 inch, or 1 days of the greater than or equal to 0.50 inch of precipitation. Snowfall during the FALL averages 5.8 inches but can be as high as 22.5 inches. FALL temperature at PARK VALLEY averages 48.4 degrees F. but can be as high as 93.0 degrees F. or as low as 0.0 degrees F. During the FALL, 36 days will be below freezing (32 degrees F.) and no days above 90 degrees F.
