This wooded and open marsh wetland property displays many of the most beautiful aspects of rural Sussex County landscapes. Mountains of the Eastern deciduous forest, wetlands influenced by decades of beaver activity, and abandoned meadows and fields of yesterday’s farms characterize this preserve. Situated near the base of the Kittatinny Mountains, visitors can look southward along the sharp, granite ridge line mountain that forms the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The Blair Creek Preserve is an ideal addition to an assortment of conservation lands protected by government and non-profit agencies including the Ridge and Valley Conservancy, The Nature Conservancy, Orange YMCA, Stillwater Township and the National Park Service. Old woods roads follow along narrow streams throughout the property. Stone walls built by early settlers outline long abandoned fields and pastures. Barred owl, black bear and bobcat, indicative of wild places, all share Blair Creek Preserve. Visitors will find the best access from Old School House Road as well as Fairview Lake Road. Some abandoned woods roads serve as un-maintained trails for quiet walks and bird watching opportunities. General visitors are also welcomed to hike at the adjoining 485-acre Blair Creek Preserve property which is co-managed between the Trust, Ridge and Valley Conservancy and The Nature Conservancy (hunting here is limited to special management program guidelines arranged by The Nature Conservancy). The Trust allows registration for deer hunting at its Blair Creek Preserve.
