The primary purposes of Hartland Swamp Wildlife Management Area (WMA) are for wildlife management, wildlife habitat management, and wildlife-dependent recreation.
This is a 401-acre property located approximately 8 miles northeast of the city of Lockport. The area was purchased by DEC with funds from the 1972 and 1986 Environmental Quality Bond Act.
The area primarily consists of shrub swamp, emergent marsh, and open water wetlands. This WMA was acquired to ensure the permanent preservation of this diverse natural wetland.
