1 - 3 Hunters
New for 2024! We are leasing the 5 day early archery and the 4 day early rifle season as one 9 day combined hunt. We will also offer the same combined hunt for the late season. This gives you the opportunity to hunt the first 5 days with archery equipment (crossbows are legal) and if unsuccessful, you then get to hunt with a rifle for the next 4 days substantially increasing your odds of harvest.
For 2023 the early season was October 7-11 (archery) and October 12-15 (rifle). The cost of this combined 9 day either sex archery/rifle hunt for 2024 will be $7,000 per hunter in your party.
In 2023 the late season was December 9-13 (archery) and December 14-17 (rifle). The cost of this combined 9 day either sex archery/rifle hunt for 2024 will be $7,000 per hunter in your party.
January 1-31 is designated as antlerless only elk season - any method.
This is a great hunt for those not so concerned with tagging a trophy but wishing to put meat in the freezer. Five day antlerless hunts in January are $2500.
As method and season dates can change annually, please consult the latest OWDC regulations for current year hunt dates (wildlifedepartment.com).
Hunters have the chance to harvest free-ranging elk on our ranch which is located in Kiowa county - one of only three counties comprising the much heralded Special Southwest Zone. Unlike other elk hunting zones, the Special Southwest Zone has no harvest quota. What that means to you as a hunter is that you don't have to go online every morning to determine if the quota for the zone you are hunting has been met, because once each zone quota is met, hunting in that zone is immediately closed potentially leaving you with an unfilled tag. Our liberal bag limit does not mean we are into the indiscriminate harvesting of as many elk as can be shot. On the contrary, we strictly limit the number of hunts we sell each year, each hunter is limited to one elk, and we never mix hunting parties. If you book a hunt with us, your party will be the only ones hunting during that particular season.
The elk found on our ranch are free ranging descendants of those roaming the Wichita Wildlife Refuge which is only 11 miles from our ranch. These are the same elk that hunters wait a lifetime to draw a tag for. With what we are offering, there is no need to wait a lifetime hoping to draw an elk tag or to drive all the way to New Mexico or Colorado. We are nestled in the Wichita Mountains in Kiowa county in southwest Oklahoma which is only 2 hours from Oklahoma City and 200 miles from the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, an easy 3.5-4 hour drive.
We have well concealed 2 person ladder stands, an enclosed platform blind and ground blind locations for 30-50 yard shots, or you can pick a spot of your own choosing. Shots can range anywhere from 30 yards or closer out to 400 yards and beyond.
This is a fair chase hunt for free ranging animals - not a high fenced canned hunt. Therefore you must rely on your skills and abilities to bag one of these amazing animals. This is real hunting and as such there is no guarantee that you will fill your tag but we ensure that feed is available to them year-round and the herds make their home in the mountains of our ranch.
Those who have an Oklahoma lifetime license are not required to purchase an elk tag, however annual license holders and nonresidents must purchase an elk tag.
All game regulations will be adhered to and a contract must be signed and notarized. I advise that you visit the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife web page (wildlifedepartment.com) and familiarize yourself with the elk hunting regulations and to see exactly where the Special Southwest Zone is located.
According to the Oklahoma wildlife regulations, legal bulls in our Special Southwest Zone must have "at least 5 points on at least one side and an antlerless elk is defined as any elk with no visible antlers, regardless of sex." This point restriction helps ensure that only trophy bulls are harvested. The Special Southwest Zone harvests twice as many elk as all other zones combined!
A deposit equaling half your hunt must be received at least 90 days before the start of your hunt date to lock in the hunt you desire. The remaining balance is to be paid at least 14 days before your hunt commences. Choice of early or late season hunts are allocated in the order in which deposits are received.
My wife and I are ethical people who own and live on this ranch and as such, we invite you to come look the ranch over before booking your hunt.
Feel free to contact me directly and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
