The goose hunting in the area has been known for many years as some of the best in the world. A large part of this is due to the thousands of acres of crop land, mainly consisting of rice, which act as wetlands and prime feeding ground for waterfowl. Every year several hundred acres of land are flooded to serve as holding ponds or rest ponds. These ponds are not hunted allowing hundreds of thousands of geese to roost every night.
