Driving DirectionsThe Nishnabotna Conservation Area is composed of two separate tracts. The north tract is accessible only from the Missouri and Nishnabotna Rivers. The nearest river access is Watson Access. From Watson, take Route BB north and west 2.50 miles, continue on 160th Street west 1 mile to the boat ramp. To reach the south tract, from Watson take Route A west 2 miles, continue west on gravel road 175th Street 0.50 mile then take Aurora Ave south 0.75 mile to the area. HighlightsThis area is divided into two separate tracts, and contains a mix of cropland, idle fields, grasslands, wetlands, and cottonwood forests. About This AreaThe United States Army Corps of Engineers has purchased this area as part of the Missouri River Mitigation Project. The mitigation project has been designed to enhance fish and wildlife habitat along the Missouri River. The area is managed through a cooperative effort between the Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Conservation.This area is managed for a variety of game and non-game species of fish and wildlife. Rich bottomland soils here produce a variety of wetland vegetation and bottomland timber, which are supplemented by plantings of row crops and warm-season grasses. Management practices include reforestation, prescribed burning and opportunistic management of wetlands.There are four small scour holes that contain fish.
