About This AreaSloan Conservation Area is located in Dade County east of Lockwood, on Highway 160. This area was donated to the Missouri Department of Conservation by Dr. O.E. and Eloise Sloan.This 320-acre area includes 80 acres of crops, 30 acres of shrubs and forest, and 200 acres of native grasses and old fields. Two small ponds are located on the area, which provide some limited angling opportunities.The area is managed primarily for quail and doves. Numerous brushy thickets and strips of native grasses provide ideal habitat for quail. Various crop fields, including sunflowers, provide food plots for quail and attract many doves.Prescribed burning, native grass plantings, and cropping are the main management tools utilized on the area. Sloan Conservation Area is also home to numerous rabbits, as well as a limited number of deer and turkeys.
