Driving DirectionsFrom Lockwood, take Highway 160 west 4 miles, then Route D north 8 miles. HighlightsThis 960-acre area is nearly all native prairie and has a half-acre fishable pond. About This AreaThis 960-acre remnant prairie includes a 320-acre portion that was donated to the Missouri Department of Conservation by the Burns Family in 2002. The area is a mosaic of prairie, brushy draws, and thickets. Prescribed burning, grazing, and haying are all used to maintain the integrity of this prairie.A small stream and a few small ponds can be found scattered throughout the property. The small ponds provide watering holes for cattle and wildlife as well as limited fishing opportunity.Fair populations of rabbits and quail inhabit this area, as well as several deer. Many species of grassland birds can also be found at Stony Point Prairie.
