About This Lease
Middlesex Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located in the central Vermont town of Middlesex. The WMA is 290 acres in size and is bounded by Interstate 89 to the south. The State of Vermont does not own the land, but does own timber management, recreational and development rights. The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is responsible for the management of those rights. Access to the WMA is from Exit 9 of Interstate 89, then north on Center Road onto McCullough Road to Upper Barnet Hill Road. An undeveloped parking area exists off Upper Barnet Hill Road, where several large cement- building footers are located. Vehicle access becomes more difficult as one travels south on Upper Barnet Hill Road because the road turns into an unimproved Class 4 town road. The WMA lies within the Winooski River watershed and is mostly forested with hemlock, white pine and balsam fir. There are two small intermittent streams present in the northwest and southeast extremities.
