About This Lease
McCalla Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is an approximately 5660-acre tract that is the result of an agreement with U.S Army Corps of Engineers, South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). Special Use Area: An approximately 620-acre section of the property is designated and posted as a Special Use Area. No hunting at anytime in the Special Use Area, except for special hunts as designated by SCDNR. The Special Use Area has approximately 10 miles of horse trail traversing along the edge of Lake Russell. Horse riding is permissible, on designated trails only, year round Sunday - Friday (No Saturday riding). Horses are prohibited outside of the Special Use Area. Bicycles and motorized vehicles are prohibited on the horse trail and motorized vehicles are prohibited behind barricades or closed gates and in areas otherwise posted as "Closed to Vehicles." The "Causeway Road" is closed to hunting; NO shooting from, into, or across the road. It may be used to access the WMA on the east side of the road, but firearms must be unloaded while traversing. Quality Deer Management: McCalla WMA is designated as a Quality Deer Management Area and any antlered buck that is harvested must have a minimum of 4 points on one side or a minimum 12-inch antler spread, except during designated special youth hunts. Antler spread is the greatest outside measurement (Main beam or points) on a plane perpendicular to the skull. All other General WMA and Game Zone 2 WMA regulations apply for all species.
