About This Lease
Fish and wildlife are one of the many resources provided by the forest. The Little Juniata River is an excellent trout fishery. Several smaller mountain streams are also stocked with trout. Deer, bear, and turkey are plentiful. Both long and short distance hiking opportunities abound in Rothrock. Try a multi-day hike on 43 miles of the Mid State Trail that runs through the forest, or hike to the many scenic overlooks that are found in the forest. Always let someone know when and where you will be hiking. Leave no trace of your activities. Trails within the forest are open to mountain biking and horseback riding. Most trails are kept clear over the summer. Primitive campers spending no more than one night at a campsite typically do not need a camping permit, with certain exceptions. Contact the district office to find out which mountain biking trails are better for riding, for trail maps, self-guiding brochures and for camping permit information.
