The following is an excerpt from an article published in the November 8th 2023, issue of the Rock County Star Herald. The author writes a weekly outdoors column and was the recipient of the 2024 National Pheasants Forever volunteer of the year award. He had the opportunity to hunt this property one afternoon and wrote an article about the hunt. It was titled "EPIC" in capital letters. He is at the center of the photo of the 7 hunters.
We hunted a creek drainage with lots of willow thickets, gnarly spots with portions of CRP grassland enrollments adjoining the thick stuff. In a matter of about an hour and a half, the four guests and the accompanying guides had a Minnesota limit. I don't know when we would have finished if the shooters had better aim because there were plenty of misses to go around.
Seeing birds and watching dogs is the highlight of any outing, but this one included all of that and the rare opportunity to see over 100 birds all in one spot.
The 2025 season was exceptional as far as the pheasant population goes. We have had a very mild winter, so I would expect this season to be even better. There are an additional 200 acres or so of walk-in access grasslands directly adjacent to this property, offering a total of 500 acres to hunt.
The previous year's lessee paid $6000 just for himself and only hunted it 5 or 6 times. He was completely satisfied with his experience and would tell you so if you would like to speak with him. The reason he is not hunting it this year is that his wife would rather take the kids on a vacation with that money.
I'm confident that this property will provide as good a hunting experience as anything you might find in South Dakota, which is well known for its pheasant hunting. Plenty of deer and beavers, too.
