The property was purchased by Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp. in the 1930's and was managed with selective harvests and some pine plantings. The area was sold to The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in 1992 as part of a larger land sale. TNC sold the property to the Department in 1992. Since that time management has consisted of oak regeneration harvests, salvage harvests due to wildfires and windstorms, a 400 acre control burn for woodland restoration, and selective thinnings.At present most of the area consists of over-crowded stands of oak, pine, and oak-pine saw timber. Almost all the acreage is classified as woodland but there is very little woodland structure due to high tree stocking and the absence of fire.
