About This AreaKings Prairie Access is in southeastern St. Clair County, 2.50 miles east of Vista, on Route T. The access lies inside a one-mile long bend of Weaubleau Creek, a clear water Ozark stream.The 286-acre Kings Prairie Access is a mosaic of crop fields, warm-season grass plantings, timber, and old fields. Savanna, glade, and woodland communities dominate the upland sites of this area. Restoration efforts are underway, including tree removal and prescribed burning.Weaubleau Creek meanders through eastern St. Clair County before becoming a part of Harry S Truman Reservoir. Weaubleau Creek contains a diversity of aquatic life with bottomland woodland adjoining the creek. The creek is characterized by scattered, deep pools connected by shallow, fast flowing riffles. Small boats can be hand-launched at the access parking lot (light boat useage) motorless craft that can be dragged over the riffles.The Missouri Department of Conservation has completed two streambank erosion control projects to reduce excessive erosion on portions of Weaubleau Creek that fall within Kings Prairie Access.Most of the year, wading or bank fishing is the most enjoyable way of experiencing the excellent black bass and channel catfish fisheries.Wildlife on the area includes beaver, turkey, deer, quail, rabbits, squirrels, herons, bank swallows, and belted kingfishers, as well as various reptiles and amphibians. An occasional bald eagle can be seen during the winter months along Weaubleau Creek.
