About This Lease
The Chelan Butte Unit includes 9,097 acres of land located between Lake Chelan and the Columbia River. Bighorn sheep released in 2004 are now well established on the area and can be seen regularly. Upland game birds using the area include chukar, grey partridge, blue grouse and California quail. Many miles of roads are closed to motorized vehicles offer good hiking and mountain biking, skiing and snowshoeing opportunities. WDFW has restored about 100 acres of abandoned agricultural fields to shrubsteppe habitat on Chelan Butte and will be restoring an additional 1,200 acres between 2009 and 2015.
