About This Lease
This area is managed both as a wetland conservation area and nature preserve. It includes the entire shore of Round Lake and its surrounding wetlands. This muck- bottomed lake has formed in a shallow depression in a sandy plain. The open water is surrounded by an emergent marsh that includes cattails and a floating sedge marsh. Several rare plants are found in the wetlands. The wooded portions of the shore grade from wet woods into upland oak mixed with maples or cottonwood. Uplands on the southwest part of the preserve were once farmed. Future plans call for prairie restoration.
