About This Lease
Opens noon on June 1. Just south of the Highway, Garrity Mountain rises over 8,000 feet in Elevation. The mountain's open, grassy areas provide critical winter foraging for elk, deer, and bighorn sheep, while pockets of timber offer shelter and thermal cover. The Garrity Mountain / Clear Creek WMA involves two separate pieces of property. The Garrity Mtn. parcel covers a total of 6,707 acres located approximately three miles west of Anaconda. Around 2,400 acres of the area is open bunchgrass rangeland at elevations from 6,800 to 8,000 feet. The remaining 3,200 acres are predominately second growth lodgepole pine, heavily harvested during the early 1900's. The Clear Creek parcel covers a total of 2,265 acres at the head of Clear Creek drainage, south of Anaconda. The two parcels are separated by a section of Butte Water Company lands. Mange the land for highly productive, diverse vegetative communities that will provide high quality forage and cover for native wildlife species, with an emphasis on bighorn sheep, elk, mule deer, and white-tailed deer winter/spring forage supplies; and manage for hunting and other recreational opportunities for the public and access to National Forest Lands. Drive 8 miles west of Anaconda on Montana Highway 1 to the Yankee Flat Area. Turn left onto an unmarked road near marker 18, just east of Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Office. Drive past a group of houses and look for the Garrity Moutnain WMA sign.
