About This Lease
Bighorn sheep, white-tailed deer, and mule deer may be seen on the WMA during any time of year, but are most observable from fall through spring. Black bears are regular fall visitors and moose and elk are seen occasionally. Consisting of 172 acres, the WMA lies adjacent to the Kootenai River beginning approximately eight miles downstream from Libby. Bounded on the north, east, and west by national forest land, it includes three miles of Kootenai River frontage on its southern boundary. Although the WMA occupies relatively gentle terrain along the river terrace, the land immediately upslope could best be described as steep, rocky, and rugged. Forest habitat is very diverse and most coniferous trees common to the Northwest can be found. Kootenai Falls is located in Lincoln County in northwestern Montana, seven miles northwest of Libby. Take State highway 37 north from Libby to Kootenai River Road (county road).
