About This Lease
The Campbell's Crossroads (CC) and Angelus tracts were acquired in 1986 as part of a land swap between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge and the South Carolina Wildlife and Marine Resources Department, now the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The CC and Angulus tracts consist of approximately 365 acres in two noncontiguous tracts of 314.5 acres and 50.3 acres. The CC tract is located approximately 8.0 miles southwest of the town of Chesterfield and just northwest of the intersection of SC 145 and SC 109. This parcel was formed from Sandhills Refuge tracts 312-b (296 acres) and approximately 18.55 acres of the western portion of tract 366-c. The Angelus tract lies approximately 4 miles west of the larger tract on S-13-360. This tract is approximately 50.3 acres of the southern portion of Refuge tract 1094. These tracts are composed mostly of planted and natural longleaf and loblolly pine and about 25% in hardwood stands composed of blackgum, maple, yellow poplar, red oak, water oak and hickory. Portions of the pine stands are prescribe burned annually. The CC tract has approximately 17 acres of wildlife openings and one non-active 20 acre public dove field. White-tailed deer, wild turkey, and small game species are present and hunting is allowed within the Game Zone 4 regulations.
