The S.C. Department of Natural Resources acquired Woodbury Wildlife Management Area and Heritage Preserve (WMA/HP) in summer 2006 from International Paper Company with the assistance of the Conservation Fund, The Nature Conservancy and other partners. Woodbury WMA/HP consists of 25,668 acres and is located in Marion County, South Carolina. An extensive road system provides public and management access throughout the tract, as do numerous boat landings on the Great Pee Dee and Little Pee Dee rivers. The main entrance to Woodbury WMA/HP is located off US Hwy 378 approximately 2.8 miles southeast of Daviston, SC. The property may also be accessed via Pet Lawrimore Rd. located off US Hwy 378 approximately 7.2 miles southeast of Daviston, SC. Access points located off US Hwy 378 are marked with brown reflective signs. Woodbury WMA/HP contains several unique habitat types, including both black river (Little Pee Dee floodplain and many smaller watercourses) and red river (Great Pee Dee River floodplain) habitats such as bottomland hardwoods, Carolina bays and other isolated freshwater wetlands, longleaf pine forests and loblolly pine plantations. Woodbury WMA/HP is managed to provide quality natural resources-dependent recreational opportunities. Hunting, fishing, boating, birding, hiking, biking and wildlife viewing are among the more popular activities enjoyed by visitors. Primitive camping is available at boat ramps located within the property's boundaries. These include Sampson Landing, Sanders Landing and Parker Landing located on the tributaries of the Little Pee Dee River and Tanyard Landing located on the Great Pee Dee River. Designated campgrounds are marked with signage.
