HighlightsThis area contains forest, old fields, and grassland. It offers access to the Grand River. About This AreaHolmes Bend Access is on the Grand River in Daviess County, two miles south of Gallatin. A one-half mile interior road winds through the tract, joining the uplands to the river flood plain. The Conservation Commission approved the purchase of land for Holmes Bend Access from the Vaughn family in 1977.Approximately one-half mile of the Grand River forms the eastern boundary of the area. This unchannelized portion of the river has steep, rocky banks, and deep water. This stretch of water has over the years provided excellent fishing. The access was named for Chester Holmes, who farmed just south of the access. The bend in the river has historically been known as Holmes bend.
